We've all been there. You're scrolling through TikTok, hear an absolute banger of a song in the background of some video, and before you can check what it is — you've already swiped past it. Now what? Good luck finding it again in an endless feed.

Or maybe you did stop, but the creator used "original audio" or a remixed version, and there's no obvious song name listed. This is one of the most common frustrations on TikTok, and luckily there are several ways to track down any song.

Method 1: Check the Sound Link in TikTok

The easiest check — tap the spinning disc icon at the bottom right of the video. This shows you the sound page. If the creator used an official track from TikTok's music library, you'll see the song name, artist, and album art right there.

You can also tap "Use this sound" to save it for later or search it on Spotify/Apple Music by name. This works about 70% of the time. The other 30%, the sound is listed as "original audio" which usually means either the creator recorded it themselves, used a copyrighted track not in TikTok's library, or used a remix/mashup.

Method 2: Use TikPink's Music Finder

This is the approach we recommend when the in-app sound link doesn't help. Copy the TikTok video link, paste it into TikPink's Music Finder tool, and it'll analyze the audio and identify the track.

The tool extracts the audio from the video and matches it against music databases. You'll get the song name, artist, album, and usually a link to listen on YouTube or Spotify. It handles remixes, slowed/sped-up versions, and even songs playing quietly in the background behind dialogue.

Identify That Song Now

Paste any TikTok link and find the song in seconds.

Method 3: Shazam While the Video Plays

The classic approach — play the TikTok video and run Shazam simultaneously. On iPhone, you can add Shazam to your Control Center for quick access. On Android, Shazam can run as a floating button over other apps.

This works well for popular songs but struggles with: very short clips (under 5 seconds of music), heavily remixed tracks, and songs with lots of talking or sound effects layered on top.

Method 4: Ask the Comments

Sometimes the lowest-tech solution is the best one. Drop a comment on the video asking "What song is this?" and there's a solid chance either the creator or another viewer will answer. TikTok's community is actually pretty helpful about this stuff.

You can also search the comments — someone else probably already asked. Look for comments with the 🎵 emoji or phrases like "song name" / "what's the song."

When All Else Fails: Lyrics Search

If you caught any lyrics at all — even a few words — type them into Google in quotes. "lyrics" plus whatever words you heard usually brings up the right song within the first few results. This is surprisingly effective even with misheard lyrics.

Google also has a "hum to search" feature in its mobile app. Not perfect, but it's gotten a lot better over the years.

Trending TikTok Sounds to Know

One last tip: if a song is all over your For You Page, it's probably trending. Check TikTok's Discover page (the magnifying glass) and look at trending sounds. There's usually a top 20 list that covers the week's most-used audio. If the song you're looking for is popular right now, it's probably there.
